Macaws are definitely among the most colorful and strikingly beautiful birds of the parrot family. They are said to have the greatest and most unique personalities of all birds. Because of their great beauty and engaging personalities, they are a favorite pet among bird lovers and have been kept for centuries.
Macaws are very affectionate and highly intelligent birds that can learn to imitate and talk exceptionally well. Macaws are known to be very loud so it is best not to add one to your family if you have close neighbors. These birds require a STRONG cage that is minimum of 40" x 36" and need to be provided with lots of large wooden toys and playtime outside of their cage to prevent boredom. Macaws love to be the center of attention and should be given at least 2 hours of human interaction daily.
The diet of the Macaw should consist mainly of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seed, grains, cooked beans and rice. A high quality pellet can be fed but should not make up more than 40% of their diet.
Remember...Macaws can live 80-100 years or more!
