Bird Type: Solomon Island

The Eclectus Parrot is one of the most unusual of all the Parrot species. Males and females are dimorphic, meaning the males and females can be identified by different colors. Male Solomon Eclectus are a bright green with the primary flight feathers blue and red underneath the wings. The upper mandible is dark orange fading into a bright yellow and the lower mandible is black. The female Solomon Eclectus is primarily red with a band of violet blue feathers extending down the abdomen and around the nape of the neck and onto the bend of the wing. Both upper and lower mandible is black. Solomon females also have a distinctive blue eye ring. The Solomon Island Eclectus is approximately 14.5 to 15 inches in length with a 9.5 to 10 inch wingspan.
